Happy mid summer friends! I've been keeping a pretty local profile lately, (which means you may have seen me somewhere in eastern or southern Ontario) working on some new music (a new album is coming along! ), singing in a barbershop quartet, or playing drums with Kingston disco western wierdo's Music Maul.

Along with many other community volunteers in PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) I've also been continuing the campaign to make sure that Southern Ontario's precious UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve- the Niagara Escarpment- specifically Mount Nemo in Burlington Ontario, is protected from a massive open pit mining proposal that threatens the drinking water, Endangered Species habitats and old growth significant forests there.

We need your help to continue our success. To date PERL has successfully updated wetland designations to aid in their protection, hired experts to conduct numerous reviews of reports, and raised the rigor of this application review. Our experts have furthered our resolve to make sure our government officials do not support this quarry application. They have made it clear that the drinking water resources and the wetland and woodland habitats on Mount Nemo cannot sustain any further quarrying. (A 600 acre giant pit has been operating at the heart of the Mount Nemo plateau since the 1950's and is nearing the end of it's rock supply)

Our Niagara Escarpment is at risk and you can do something to protect it. By
purchasing a ticket to "I Love the Escarpment, Too", with Bruce Cockburn and me, Sarah Harmer, you'll enjoy an intimate outdoor concert while protecting something that is precious to us all – the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve. You hike it, you cycle it, and some of you live on it.
Even if you haven't yet gotten to see it up close, now it's time to protect it. Help PERL create a new vision for the
Escarpment, free from destructive industrial activity and full of the things
you love- rare plants and animal species, healthy wetlands, clean drinking water, and old growth forests.

Enjoy delicious food & great entertainment on a beautiful Mount Nemo farm in North Burlington.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at www.maplemusic.com
